APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University football player P.J. Hilbert has been selected for the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Hilbert, a senior quarterback from Lake Villa, Ill., was named to the national
team, which honors players at all positions, on special teams. Hilbert, a former
star at Antioch High School, earned the honor after blocking two kicks in Lawrence's
38-36 win over Carroll College last Saturday.
Hilbert, who stands 6-foot-4, blocked a potential game-winning 33-yard field goal on the contest's final play to preserve Lawrence's victory. Hilbert, who also was named the Midwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, also blocked an extra point attempt in the third quarter.
Those were the first two blocks of Hilbert's career and he is one shy of tying Lawrence's season record of three blocked kicks, held by Scott Fischer (2001), Sean Ehret (1991), and Tom Hughes (1976). Lawrence football records indicate Hilbert's two blocked kicks in a game sets a school record.
Lawrence (1-2, 1-2 MWC) is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Beloit College (0-4, 0-3) for a 2:00 p.m. game.
