Three Vikings named to all-conference women's basketball team

APPLETON, Wis. -- Three Lawrence University women's basketball players have been named to the All-Midwest Conference team.

Senior Claire Getzoff and sophomore Kelly Mulcahy made the first team, and sophomore Jenny Stoner was a second-team selection.

Getzoff, a guard from Evanston, Ill., was a first-team selection for the fourth consecutive season. Getzoff, who averaged 14.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, obliterated Lawrence's career scoring record. She finished her career with 1,487 points, easily topping the mark of 1,225 set by Sarah O'Neil from 1988-92.

The former Evanston Township High School standout scored a career-high 30 points twice this season and finished the season with 15.2-point per game average. She also led the squad with 4.0 assists per game and was second on the team at 2.7 steals per contest. Getzoff finished her career third in both steals (247) and assists (304).

Mulcahy, a forward from Glendale who starred at Nicolet High School, had a breakthrough season. She averaged a team-high 14.4 points in conference play while shooting 54.6 percent from the floor. Mulcahy also averaged 6.1 rebounds in league play.

Mulcahy had the biggest game of her career when she scored 30 points in a win over Carroll College. On the season, Mulcahy averaged 14.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Stoner, who hails from Chicago, established herself as the league's premier perimeter defender. The former standout at Regina Dominican High School 5.1 points and an amazing 3.1 rebounds per game given her 5-foot frame. Stoner, who caused havoc throughout the conference with her aggressive and relentless ball pressure, led the league with 49 steals, an average of 3.1 per contest.

Stoner, who has averaged 2.9 steals per game during her career, picked up a season-high eight thefts at Monmouth College. On the season, Stoner averaged 5.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and a team-high 3.0 steals per game.

The Vikings finished third in the Midwest Conference with a 12-4 record and posted an overall mark of 19-5, tying the most wins in school history.
