Five Vikings chosen for All-MWC men's soccer team

APPLETON, Wis. -- Five Lawrence University men's soccer players have been chosen for the All-Midwest Conference team, as selected by league coaches.
Rodrigo Gomes and Cris Salvati were named to the first team, and Ryan Pikna, Brett Suhayda, and Matt Wolin made the second team.
Gomes, a sophomore midfielder from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a first-team selection for the second consecutive season. Gomes led the team with nine goals and six assists for 24 points. Gomes, who was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week once during the season, now has 20 goals and nine assists for 49 points for his career.
Salvati, a senior defender from Victoria, British Columbia, was a stalwart on defense for Lawrence. A four-year starter, Salvati, who played at Belmont Senior Secondary School, had one assist on the season.
Wolin, a junior from Highland Park, Ill., played every second in goal for the Vikings this season. He had a 7-7-3 record with four shutouts. The former Highland Park High School standout was named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and had a 1.57 goals against average and a .785 save percentage.
Pikna, a freshman midfielder from Wauwatosa, was second on the team with five goals. Pikna made them count, as three of his five scores were game-winning goals. Pikna played his prep soccer at Wauwatosa West High School.
Suhayda, a native of Oswego, Illl., was the rock in the middle of the Lawrence defense. The former Oswego High School star was a four-year starter and was a first-team All-Wisconsin selection last season. He is credited with making Lawrence one of the best defensive teams in the Midwest Conference.
Lawrence finished the season with a 7-7-3 record and took fourth in the Midwest Conference with a 5-2-2 mark. The Vikings qualified for the Midwest Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season, a first in school history.
