APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University basketball standout Chris Braier has
been named to the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America team.
Braier, a junior forward from Wauwatosa, was named to the second team. The 6-foot-5
Braier became the first Lawrence basketball player to received All-America honors
when he selected by both D3hoops.com and DIII News following last season.
Braier, a former star at Wauwatosa East High School, averaged 15 points and
13.4 rebounds per game last season. He was chosen as the Midwest Conference
Player of the Year and was a first-team All-Midwest Region selection.
Braier led Lawrence to the finest season in school history in 2003-04. The Vikings
went 24-5 and won the Midwest Conference championship. Lawrence went on to win
the Midwest Conference Tournament and received an automatic berth in the NCAA
Division III Tournament. The Vikings advanced to the Elite Eight with wins over
Lakeland College, Buena Vista University, and Sul Ross State University. The
Vikings, who advanced farther in the tournament than any team in Midwest Conference
history, were finally eliminated in overtime by the eventual national champion,
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Lawrence opens its season Friday vs. Viterbo University at the UW-Platteville
Tip-Off Tournament.
