Lawrence sweeps MCHA weekly awards

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team swept the first set of Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association weekly awards for the 2004-05 season.

Pete Mossberg was chosen as Player of the Week, Andrew Isaac won Defensive Player of the Week honors, and Josh Peterson was chosen as Freshman of the Week.

The Vikings opened their season with a pair of ties on the road this past weekend. Lawrence tied the College of St. Scholastica 7-7 on Friday and got a 3-3 tie with the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday.

Mossberg, a junior forward from Salt Lake City, Utah, won Player of the Week honors after picking up five points in the two games. Mossberg had a goal and three assists against St. Scholastica and added another assist against UW-Stout. Mossberg, who attended Utah Valley High School and played for the Utah Valley Golden Eagles before coming to Lawrence, led the team in assists and points last season.

Isaac, a sophomore goalie from Mississauga, Ontario, won top defensive honors after posting 58 saves in the tie with Stout. He had a .951 save percentage for the game. Isaac, a graduate of St. Michael's College School, was an all-conference selection as a freshman.

Peterson, a native of Duluth, Minn., had a goal and three assists in the opening weekend. He picked up his first collegiate goal to put the Vikings ahead 7-6 against St. Scholastica. Peterson, who played for Helena in the NAHL last season, also had a pair of assists against the Saints.

Lawrence is back in action Sunday when it hosts the Toronto Rattlers, a varsity college touring team, in an exhibition game Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
