APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University pitcher Josh Richie has been named the
Midwest Conference baseball Player of the Week.
Richie, a sophomore from Ellsworth, earned the honor after turning in a wonderful
performance in a 7-2 victory over Carroll College last Thursday.
Richie, a former standout at Ellsworth High School, took a no-hitter into the
sixth inning before settling for the 7-2 victory over the Pioneers. Richie went
the distance and allowed no earned runs and five hits (all singles) while striking
out six and walking four.
Richie also retired the only batter he faced in relief during Saturday’s
doubleheader at Carroll. For the week, Richie pitched 9 1/3 innings with a 0.00
ERA, while allowing the opposition to hit only .152 against him.
The Vikings return to action on Sunday when they host Marian College in a nonconference
doubleheader at Don Hawkins Field.
