Budi latest Lawrence wrestler to earn Academic All-America honors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University wrestler John Budi became the latest in what is becoming a long line of Viking grapplers to be named an Academic All-American.
Budi, a Kimberly native, was Scholar All-America Wrestling Team by the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Association. A sophomore biology major, Budi has a 3.6 grade point average.
Budi’s selection marks the 12th consecutive year Lawrence has had a wrestler honored for their academic achievements. He joins Dave Munoz, Chris Klotz, Mike Hoskins, Ross Mueller, Justin Seaman, Greg Goska, Nick Morphew, and Ric Scannell, who were all honored dating back to 1994.
Budi, a former standout at Kimberly High School, also is a standout wrestler at 165 pounds. He had the most wins on the squad this season by posting a 29-12 record. Budi, who is 55-26 with five pins for his career, took fourth place at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships this season.
