APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men’s basketball standout Jason
Holinbeck was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week after a record-breaking
performance.
Holinbeck, a senior guard from Neenah, earned the honor after breaking the school’s
single-game scoring record in a 112-85 win at Grinnell College last Friday.
Holinbeck poured in 47 points to break the record of 45, which was held by three
players. He hit 21 of 25 shots from the floor and was 5 of 6 from the free-throw
line.
Holinbeck, a former star at Neenah High School, started his week with 23 points
and seven rebounds in Lawrence’s 80-72 win over Carroll College last Tuesday.
He capped the week with 14 points in a 70-51 rout at Lake Forest College last
Saturday.
For the three games, Holinbeck averaged 28 points and shot 75 percent (33-44)
from the floor, including 69.2 percent (9-13) on 3-pointers. He leads the team
in scoring at 13.6 points per game.
Lawrence, 11-3 and 6-2 in the Midwest Conference, is currently ranked 12th in
the latest D3hoops.com poll. The Vikings are in action at Alexander Gymnasium
this weekend. Lawrence faces Monmouth College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Grinnell
at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
