APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University football standouts Justin Berrens and Zach Michael have been chosen for the all-region team.
Don Hansen's Football Gazette chose Berrens and Michael for the All-West region third team. It was the first all-region selection for both players.
Berrens, a Waupaca native and former star at Waupaca High School, finished ninth in the nation in rushing at 147.7 yards per game. Selected last week as the Wisconsin Private College Player of the Year, Berrens ran 279 times for 1,477 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
Berrens finished his career third on Lawrence's career list with 3,659 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry during his three seasons.
Michael, an Appleton native who played his prep football for Lawrence All-American Pat Schwanke at Appleton East, caught 61 passes for 876 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Michael holds Lawrence's career records for catches (248), receiving yards (3,842), and touchdown catches (40), and he has nine other school records to his credit.
Both players received first-team All-Midwest Conference honors in 2003 for the second consecutive season.
