Gomes, a freshman forward from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was named the conference¹s offensive player of the week, and Perry, a junior goalkeeper from Mission, Kan., was the defensive player of the week.
Gomes scored his first three collegiate goals this past week, helping the Vikings to a 2-1 record in those games.
Gomes scored Lawrence¹s first goal in a 4-0 win at Clarke College on Sept. 9. Gomes then scored a pair of goals in Lawrence¹s 2-0 win over St. Olaf College. Gomes hammered a shot from 30 yards out to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead in the first half. With less than five minutes remaining, Gomes sealed the win for the Vikings when he blasted a half-volley past the St. Olaf goalkeeper.
Perry, a former standout at Shawnee Mission High School, posted two shutouts during the past week. He made seven saves in Lawrence¹s win at Clarke, eight saves in a double-overtime loss at Carleton, and five saves in a shutout of St. Olaf. That doubled Perry¹s career shutout total to four. He also recorded shutouts as a freshman against Clarke and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
The Vikings are back in action Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game against Milwaukee School of Engineering.
