Quartet of Lawrence softball players earn All-Midwest Conference honors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Four Lawrence University softball players have been named to the All-Midwest Conference Team in a vote by league coaches.

Jenny Burris, Shannon Arendt, Lauren Kost, and Becca Reason were all named to the North Division team.

Burris, a senior shortstop from Gurnee, Ill., was chosen for the all-conference team for the fourth straight season. She batted .486 in conference play with a .784 slugging percentage. On the season, Burris, who won North Division Player of the Year honors the previous two seasons, batted .457 with eight doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 27 runs batted in.

Burris finished her career at Lawrence as the school's leader in hits (184), runs scored (123), doubles (38), triples (10), total bases (266), and stolen bases (103). She finished with a career batting average of .436.

Arendt, a senior second baseman from Hortonville, earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive season. She batted .310 in the conference and had a stellar .974 fielding percentage. Arendt batted .342 for the season with eight doubles, two triples, and 10 RBIs.

Kost, a junior pitcher from Carol Stream, Ill., was the workhorse of the Lawrence pitching staff. She went 8-3 in the conference with a 0.74 earned run average. She struck out 48 and walked only seven in 75.2 innings pitched in the league.

On the season, Kost broke school records for starts (25), appearances (29), and innings pitched (168). She went 16-8 with a 1.58 ERA on the season. She struck out 97 and walked 34.

Reason, a sophomore center fielder from Minnetonka, Minn., made the all-conference team for the second straight season. One of the top defensive outfielders in the league, Reason was Lawrence's lead-off hitter and batted .302 in the conference and .303 overall. She also swiped 12 bases in 13 tries.

Lawrence finished the season 19-15 and took third place in the Midwest Conference. The Vikings played in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament for the third consecutive season.
