APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University standout Nick Morphew was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week after going 5-0 this past weekend.
Morphew, a senior from Prophetstown, Ill., wrestles at 133 pounds for the Vikings. He started his week by pinning the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Paul Lundgren in 2 minutes, 39 seconds, as part of Lawrence's 26-15 win over the Blugolds last Friday. He then went 4-0 at the Private College Championships on Saturday to take the title at 133. Morphew beat Brian Taylor of North Central College 10-4 to take the championship. Morphew has won the title in all three tournaments in which he has participated this season.
The former state champion from Prophetstown High School is 23-1 on the season and has won 20 consecutive matches.
Lawrence is back in action Friday at home when the Vikings (12-1, 1-1 WIAC) face UW-Whitewater (8-3, 2-1) at 7:00 p.m. at Alexander Gymnasium.
