Braier heads list of Lawrence basketball players named to All-Midwest Conference squad

APPLETON, WIS. - Four Lawrence University men's basketball players have been named to the All-Midwest Conference team, as chosen by league coaches.

Chris Braier was selected for the first team, and Brendan Falls, Rob Nenahlo, and Jason Holinbeck were given honorable mention.

Braier (Wauwautosa/East), a 6-foot-5 freshman forward, was a dominant force inside for the Vikings during his rookie campaign. He led the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game and rebounding at 11.0 boards per contest. He turned in a league-high 12 double-doubles on the season. Braier, who led the team in rebounding in every game but one this season, shot 53.3 percent from the floor.

Braier easily led the conference in rebounding at 11.8 per game and was 16th in the conference in scoring at 14.1 points per game. He was 10th in the league in field goal percentage at 53.8 percent and ninth in steals at 1.56 per game.

Braier had his biggest game of the season when he tied the school record with 45 points against Grinnell College, and he also grabbed 23 rebounds in that game. His 338 rebounds this season ranks second on Lawrence's single-season list, trailing only Brad Childs' 366 in 1968-69.

Falls (Park Ridge, Ill./Loyola Academy), a 6-5 sophomore forward, was second on the team at 10.5 points per game. Falls shot 46.5 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent on 3-pointers. He grabbed 2.8 rebounds per game and added 23 assists and 14 steals for the season.

Holinbeck (Neenah/Neenah) received honorable mention for the second consecutive season. He was third on the team in scoring at 10.2 points per game and ranked 30th in the league at 10.9 per contest. The 6-2 sophomore guard was also second on the team in rebounding at 3.3 per contest and second with 56 assists. He shot 43.8 percent from the floor, including 22.4 percent on 3-pointers.

Nenahlo (Appleton/East), a 6-1 guard, did virtually everything for the Vikings. The multi-talented junior played the point for Lawrence for the first time and led the team with 66 assists. He averaged 9.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent on 3-pointers. Nenahlo led the team in free-throw shooting at 81.8 percent. He was second on the squad with 30 steals and second with eight blocked shots.

Lawrence, which was second in the MWC with a 12-4 record, finished the season with an 18-6 record. The 18 wins is the second-highest season total in school history.
