Slivinski, Ebert make their mark for Lawrence University track team

APPLETON, WIS. - A pair of Lawrence University track athletes made their marks at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Invitational this past Saturday.

Sarah Slivinski broke her own school record in the pentathlon and Shelley Ebert grabbed a provisional qualifying spot for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Slivinski, a senior from Eagle River, won the pentathlon with a score of 2,996 points, shattering her school record of 2,710, set at the same meet last season. She won every event in the pentathlon, which consists of the 55-meter hurdles, the high jump, the shot put, the long jump, and the 800 meters.

Slivinski won the 55 hurdles in 9.39 seconds, took the high jump at 4 feet, 11.75 inches, won the shot put at 32-4.25, captured the long jump at 15-6.25, and won the 800 with a time of 2:30.94. Slivinksi, a former star at Three Lakes High School, took third in the high jump against the entire field.

Ebert, a senior from Janesville, ran to victory in the 800 in 2:18.23 to earn her provisional qualifying spot. Her time is the top mark in the Midwest Conference this season by nearly nine seconds.

Ebert, a former standout at Janesville Craig High School, qualified for the NCAA Championships last season in the 800 and ran a time of 2:18.01, just five-hundreths of a second from earning All-America status.

The Vikings are back in action Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
