Wilkin named MWC Player of the Week for second time this season

APPLETON, WIS. - Lawrence University soccer player Katie Wilkin has earned Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Wilkin, a junior goalkeeper from Oregon, Wis., led Lawrence to a 3-0 record during the past week and recorded a pair of shutouts in the process. Wilkin, who has a .926 save percentage and a 0.81 goals against average, now has seven shutouts this season.

Wilkin, a former standout at Oregon High School, was the winning keeper in a 2-1 victory over St. Norbert College last Tuesday. She made 13 saves against the Green Knights, who had been unbeaten in conference play.

She then had a pair of shutouts over the weekend. On Saturday, Wilkin made three saves in a 1-0 win over Illinois College, and she finished her weekend with three saves in a 4-0 win over Monmouth College on Sunday.

Lawrence improved its record to 9-4-1, 8-0 in the conference, and clinched a berth in the MWC Tournament, set for Oct. 26-27. A win or tie Saturday against Lake Forest College would make the Vikings the top seed and host for the conference tournament.
