Lawrence's Wilkin earns conference Defensive Player of the Week honors

APPLETON, WIS. -Lawrence University women's soccer player Katie Wilkin has been selected as the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Wilkin shared the honor with Illinois College's Trisha Prather.

Wilkin, a junior goalkeeper from Oregon, Wis., earned the award after posting a 3-1 record in net over the past two weeks.

She started with a win at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sept. 11. Wilkin made 15 saves and faced 18 shots in Lawrence's 3-1 victory over the Warhawks. Wilkin then made 13 saves in a 3-1 loss at UW-Oshkosh on Sept. 19.

She came back with a pair of shutouts this past weekend. Wilkin made 11 saves in Lawrence's 2-0 win over Grinnell College in a rematch of the last two MWC Championship Games for her second shutout of the season. She followed that up with her third shutout in a 5-0 win over Knox College. Wilkin made two saves in her 45 minutes of action.

Wilkin, a former standout at Oregon High School, has a 1.20 goals against average and an .897 save percentage. She was a second-team All-Midwest Conference selection a season ago and helped lead the Vikings to the first league championship and NCAA Tournament berth in the program's history.
