Lawrence won the five-round event, which concluded at Mid-Vallee Golf Club in De Pere, with a team score of 1,626, 17 strokes better than second-place St. Norbert College.
Lawrence freshman Jeff Henderson was the medalist with a five-round score of 388, three shots better than St. Norbert's Kevin Hillman. Henderson was the lone golfer to card all five rounds in the 70s. The Reedsburg native had rounds of 76, 79, 79, 78, and 76. Henderson tied for medalist honors in the opening round of the tournament when he fired a 76 at the Broadlands Golf Club in suburban Milwaukee.
Another Lawrence freshman, Blake Nelson, finished in the top five. Nelson, a native of LeSueur, Minn., had a five-round total of 408 to place fifth. Nelson's best round during the event was the third round at Mascoutin Golf Club in Berlin. He carded a four-over par 76 to tie for medalist honors.
Junior Travis Orth, a Saint Cloud, Minn., native who earned All-Midwest Conference honors in 2000, finished in a tie for seventh with a score of 416. Orth, who was the North Division champion in 2000, had his low rounds at the beginning and end of the tournament. One of the team's captains, Orth carded an opening-round 78 the Broadlands and had an 81 in the final round at Mid-Vallee.
Brion Winters rounded out the finishers for Lawrence by earning a tie for 11th place with a score of 419. Winters, a native of Wind Lake and a team captain, saved his best round for last, carding an 81 at Mid-Vallee.
The North Division Championships went to a new format in 2002, with each school hosting one round at its home course. Lawrence wraps up its season this weekend when it travels to the Midwest Conference Championships, being played at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.
