Talented and Gifted University visit days

Fall of 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004

Groups of 16-20 8th grade students from the Appleton Area School District have come to campus to prepare aqueous-based ferrofluid. Ferrofluids are magnetic nanoparticles coated with surfactants to keep the particles for agglomerating. In the presence of a magnetic field, eye-catching spikes form in the fluid as the nanoparticles try to align with the applied field. For movie clips showing the fantastic properties of ferrofluids, please visit http://mrsec.wisc.edu/nano.

Many Lawrence students have helped with the Talented and Gifted University visit days including Khadine Higgins, Katie Chapman, Sandra Obeng, Katie Maerzke and many others.
