Robert McMillen Professor of Chemistry
University of Wisconsin, Madison, M.A., Ph.D.
Prof. Lokensgard joined the Lawrence faculty in 1967. He teaches Organic Chemistry and Advanced Organic Chemistry regularly and Instrumental Analysis occasionally. He also teaches introductory chemistry courses and Freshman Studies on occasion. He is currently one of two faculty advisors for the local American Chemical Society Student Affiliate group, and is department chair.
Professor Lokensgard's research interests range rather widely over the general area of physical organic chemistry, including: studies of organic reaction mechanisms, especially hydrolysis reactions; applications of NMR spectroscopy; identification and synthesis of natural products, particularly insect defensive compounds, pheromones, or kairomones; new synthetic reactions; strain and stereochemical effects on organic reactions; control and modification of the surface properties of dendrimers; and computer applications to chemistry, including molecular modeling for research and teaching.
