Prof. Blackwell joined the Lawrence Faculty in 1989. A biophysical chemist by training, she teaches courses in physical chemistry ("Chemical Dynamics"; "Quantum Chemistry and Statistical Mechanics"; "Spectroscopy"), participates in teaching the introductory courses, and occasionally teaches an advanced course in biophysical chemistry. She also teaches Freshman Studies regularly, and occasionally does a course in the history and chemistry of nuclear weapons.
Professor Blackwell's research interests include photosynthetic electron transport, self-organization, biomembranes as fractal spaces, the mathematical description of biological phenomena, enzyme kinetics, and other nonlinear processes.
