From the beginning, Björklunden has enjoyed a loyal following among Door County residents and visitors, including Lawrence University alumni. The Boynton Society was formed to bring news of Björklunden to its many friends and to secure financial support for its programs. Through a twice-yearly newsletter and other communications, the Boynton Society provides program updates, calendars of events, and other information about Björklunden to its members.
OperationsThe primary fund-raising objective for Björklunden is annual support of its operations, but there also are opportunities to support endowment and capital projects. Gifts to the Boynton Society directly benefit the students of Lawrence University. They underwrite the weekend seminar program, including transportation and meal costs. They make it possible for individuals and ensembles from the Conservatory of Music to perform in Door County. A gift to the Boynton Society helps support the current programs of operating a year-round, fully engaged and fully equipped northern campus for Lawrence University. Membership in the Society begins at $250, but gifts at all levels are welcome.
EndowmentBjörklunden also receives income from its own endowment. Donald Boynton established the first endowment in support of Björklunden with $250,000; in the years since, friends of Björklunden have built up this fund with additional gifts. In the years ahead, the need for a larger endowment, producing more income, will become increasingly important. Gifts to endowment can be made through a variety of means, including outright gifts, bequests, annuities, and other planned giving programs.
CapitalBoynton Society members also help meet the on-going capital expenses of maintaining the Physical Plant of the estate - from the new lodge to the venerable chapel - and providing good stewardship of the beautiful Björklunden grounds.
