Online information for the 2007 Björklunden Seminars is being prepared and will be available shortly.
A vacation with a focus
Lawrence University has
offered adult-education summer seminars at Björklunden, its
northern campus in Door County, Wisconsin, since 1980, interrupted only by
a 1993 fire that destroyed the estate’s
main lodge. In 1996, construction was completed on a new and larger facility,
and the Björklunden seminars
resumed.
The program is popular not only with its adult students but also with the instructors, some of whom have taught at Björklunden for as many as 12 or 14 or even 20 summers. Many of the seminars are taught by members of the Lawrence University faculty; other instructors bring their expertise in fields as diverse as religious studies, poetry, architecture, journalism, regional history, literature, and law.
Seminars in recent years have also included "how-to" courses in topics such as watercolor painting, drawing, bridge, knitting, and fiction writing. Björklunden's beautiful location alongside Lake Michigan provides an unsurpassed setting for seminars in wildlife art, birding, wildflowers, wild mushrooms, and the like, as well as guided explorations of the Door Peninsula's meadows, woodlands, and shorelines.
Special Björklunden offerings include a Grandparents/Grandchild Week, on-site performances by the Door Shakespeare company, and the Jazz Fantasy Camp.
