I study death!  Cell death, that is. Students in my lab look into the molecular interrelationships (changes in DNA, in protein expression, and protein activity) in cells as they undergo programmed cell death during normal tissue growth and development.  This programmed death, also called apoptosis or senescence, is an important developmental pathway in both plants and animals.  We want to learn about the program of cell death, how it occurs, and try to understand the ecological, adaptive value of apoptosis.
