Mielke Internships in Biomedical Ethics
Mielke Internships in Biomedical Ethics, Health Economics and the Medical Humanities are made possible by a gift to Lawrence University from the Mielke Family Foundation, Inc. They are administered through the Lawrence University Program in Biomedical Ethics which was established by the gift.
Up to two internships are awarded each summer to Lawrence students with adequate academic preparation to carry out the project they propose and with plans to follow up their summer’s work with further academic study appropriately relevant to the work they have been doing. A written report or paper placing the internship in a broader academic context is due to the Biomedical Ethics Advisory Committee at the end of the academic term following the internship, unless a prior extension has been granted. Each selected intern will receive a stipend for eight to ten weeks of full time work on the proposed project. Limited funds are also available on request for expenses related to the project.
Students interested in applying for the internship should obtain an application form from Mr. Boleyn-Fitzgerald, Ms. DeStasio, or Mr. Finkler, complete the application, and have a letter of support sent from the prospective project advisor to one of the aforementioned faculty members. Such a letter should indicate the type of supervisory support to be provided towards the project as well as the importance of the project.
