Michael T. Orr, Chair, Art Department and associate professor of art history It has been a year of change and development for the Art Department. We began the year with the news that CJ Davis would be leaving Appleton to move to Denver. As you can imagine, she has been sorely missed. I'm sure that you join the department in wishing CJ well in her new home. We have been very fortunate to find an outstanding replacement. Becky Ritzenthaler comes to the department from Sampson House where she previously served as Administrative Assistant. Later in the year we learned that Todd McGrain had decided to accept a position in the Art Department at Cornell University. Despite being a great loss for the department, it was a wonderful opportunity for Todd -- we wish him the best of luck at Cornell. Following an extensive job search, the department is delighted to announce that Yumi Janairo Roth has accepted the position of 3-D studio artist. Yumi has recently completed her MFA in metals at SUNY New Paltz and began teaching at Lawrence in the fall. Finally, during the year the department established minors in both studio art and art history. The new programs were immediately popular and a total of six seniors successfully completed the requirements for Art Department miors before graduating in June. As always, the success of this newsletter largely depends on your input. Becky Ritzenthaler, the newsletter's new editor, welcomes news from all of our alumnae/i. Please keep us informed of your activities -- we always enjoy hearing from you.
