The first line of each catalogue entry lists the following: the issuing authority (state or ruler), the metal (AE = bronze, AR = silver, AV = gold, EL = electrum), the denomination, the date, the weight in grams, and the Wriston Art Galleries inventory number.

The next two lines describe the images and transcribe and translate the inscriptions on the obverse (front) and reverse (back). In these, ( ) indicates completion of an abbreviation and [ ] indicates completion of an illegible or partly missing inscription.

The reader is referred to the glossary at the end of the catalogue for definitions of foreign and technical terms.
