Music Composition and Arranging - Summer 2009
Learn how to write and arrange pieces of music. Class sessions will look at several styles of music that demonstrate the craft of composition. Students will receive guidance and advice while composing at least one piece of music and will perform the original compositions in a recital. While formal music theory classes are not required, a working knowledge of notation, key signatures, and scales is helpful. Notation software is not required for the class, but is helpful if the student has access.

Group Piano Lessons - Adult
If you have always wanted to play the piano or are ready to return to the piano after years away, please join us this summer in a relaxed class setting for Group Piano Lessons.
Classes are taught in groups of three or more students in the state-of-the-art Clavinova digital keyboard lab at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music. Each student will be at his or her own keyboard with an individual set of headphones. The keyboards have weighted keys and are exceptionally similar to the touch of an acoustic piano. The teacher will be at a separate teacher module where she can, at the touch of a button, put students in pairs over the headphones, listen in to practice time, and even speak to a student individually over the headset.
Beginning adult students will be guided through the initial stages of note-reading, rhythmic structures, and hand technique & posture, laying the foundation for continued piano study. Adults returning to the keyboard after a long hiatus in lessons will complete a thorough review of fundamental keyboard theory knowledge, expand & revisit scale technique, and explore standard repertoire.
All students will be required to purchase an assigned piano book for their course. Due to the group nature of the class, make-ups are not possible (unless canceled by teacher or Academy).
