Lawrence Academy of Music ensembles provide an opportunity to play, sing, rehearse and perform music with other motivated students. The Academy offers several ensembles for musicians of all ages, including a string orchestra, chamber ensembles, two bands and six girl choirs. With instruction and coaching from talented teaching staff, students will prepare exciting repertoire for performance, while enhancing listening, rhythm, and ensemble skills.

Membership in the ensembles is by audition, unless otherwise noted. Please see individual ensembles for audition dates. Fill out an application on-line, or call the Academy at 920-832-6632 to request an application form. The New Horizons program provides ensemble opportunities for adults of all abilities.

Academy String Orchestra

ASTRO is open to fifth-through eighth-grade string students interested in preparing and performing music at a high level. Emphases are the development of reading and beginning ensemble skills. ASTRO's schedule includes weekly rehearsals, 2 performances a year and a touring opportunity to area schools. Auditions are held in the spring for the following school year. Chamber Ensembles

Small groups provide a rewarding musical experience for intermediate and advanced players who are interested in exploring the repertoire and techniques of chamber music literature. Open to string and piano students, these ensembles are formed based on age, ability, experience and instrumentation. Members are placed by audition to ensure skill-level compatibility. All chamber ensembles perform regularly in recitals and other area performances and meet weekly for a one-hour coaching with an Academy faculty member. Weekly rehearsals are arranbed by ensembles.

Flute Choir

A flute choir open to high school flutists will include performance of musical arrangements enhanced by the inclusion of piccolo, alto and bass flutes. Players will be grouped by age and ability into two ensembles for some of the rehearsal time and pieces. Six week session ends with a concert in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel.

Audition requirements include a prepared solo, chromatic scale, and scales in D major and A flat. Sight reading will be requested. Register online for auditions or print and mail a registration form.

Percussion Ensemble

Join Lawrence Academy of Music's percussion ensemble for 7-12th grade musicans. Open to any percussion students who have been playing at least one year, this ensemble will explore music and percussion instruments of different cultures and time periods. Students will be divided into groups based on age and level.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band provides experience with advanced music for middle school band students. The ensemble is open by audition to seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade band students from all Fox Valley communities. The ensemble rehearses on Monday nights at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music and presents concerts in the Lawrence Chapel in November and March. The Wind Ensemble provides advanced high school band students with opportunities to become acquainted with music specifically composed and arranged for the soloistic possibilities of wind ensembles.
