Ensembles

Lawrence Academy of Music offers several ensembles for music students of all ages, including a string orchestra, chamber ensembles, two bands and six girl choirs. Membership in the ensembles is by audition, unless otherwise noted. Please see individual ensembles for audition dates. Fill out an application on-line, or call the Academy at 920-832-6632 to request an application form. The New Horizons program provides ensemble opportunities for adults of all abilities.

Academy String Orchestra

Open to fifth-through eighth-grade string students interested in preparing and performing music at a high level. Emphases are the development of reading and beginning ensemble skills. ASTRO's schedule includes weekly rehearsals, 2 performances a year and a touring opportunity to area schools. Auditions are held in the spring for the following school year. Audition requirements (pdf format) include scales, a prepared piece and sight reading. Register online or print and mail a registration form.

Chamber Ensembles

Small groups provide a rewarding musical experience for intermediate and advanced players who are interested in exploring the repertoire and techniques of chamber music literature. Open to string and piano students, these ensembles are formed based on age, ability, experience and instrumentation. Members are placed by audition to ensure skill-level compatibility. All chamber ensembles perform regularly in recitals and other area performances and meet weekly for a one-hour coaching with an Academy faculty member. Weekly rehearsals are arranbed by ensembles.

Fee $208 per semester (16 coached sessions)

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band (formerly the Honors Band) provides experience with advanced music for middle school band students. The ensemble is open by audition to seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade band students from all Fox Valley communities. Two 10-week semesters, two concerts, and a local tour conclude the season. Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble provides advanced high school band students with opportunities to become acquainted with music specifically composed and arranged for the soloistic possibilities of wind ensembles. The ensemble is open by audition to talented wind, brass, and percussion players, grades 9-12, from throughout Northeastern Wisconsin. The ensemble season includes two ten-week semesters, two concerts, and tour opportunities. Auditions are held in the spring for the following school year. Flute Choir

A flute choir open to high school flutists will include performance of musical arrangements enhanced by the inclusion of piccolo, alto and bass flutes. Players will be grouped by age and ability into two ensembles for some of the rehearsal time and pieces. Six week session ends with a concert in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel.

Audition requirements include a prepared solo, chromatic scale, and scales in D major and A flat. Sight reading will be requested. Register online for auditions or print and mail a registration form.
