The early childhood music classes at Lawrence Academy of Music offer a wide
range of musical experiences presented by trained professional musicians. Following
the philosophy of the well-known music educator, Zoltan Kodály, the age-grouped classes enable parents and children to share the joys of
musical activities while learning basic musical concepts.
Classes are held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen Street, Appleton. Each session includes ten 30-minute classes, unless otherwise stated.

Music for the Very Young (ages 6 mo. - 4 1/2 years)
Form a learning team with your child to explore sound and melody in fun classes that center on age-appropriate songs, rhythm games and other activities designed to promote understanding of basic musical concepts. This hands-on experience utilizes a variety of folk, instrumental and percussion instruments. Classes are designed for adult-child pairs. Teachers focus on activities for two to share. No siblings, please. $89/session + $3 registration fee
Music for the Very Young-Spanish (ages 2-5)
The Spanish immersion class is ideal for introducing English speaking children ages 2-5 to the Spanish language through music, and also for Spanish speaking children who wish to retain the language and songs from their culture. Not available Winter, 2011.
Music for the Very Young - Sibling Class (ages 1-5)
A family class in which siblings interact and have fun together with music, singing, playing instruments and sharing specific musical activities. Class is for a parent/caregiver and up to two children of different ages. Not recommended for twins under age 2. $150/session for parent and two children. + $3 registration fee/child

Music and Movement (ages 3-5)
This class focuses on learning the use of space, body awareness and ear training through movement as a way to foster creativity, imagination and self-expression. Children will move and dance to appropriate music, as well as use musical instruments, providing a unique opportunity for participation and cooperation in a group with a teacher (parents not in class). A special theme class on Tuesday morning is Ballerina Princess.$89/session + $3 registration fee.
Theatre Play (ages 5-7)
The class offers activities and theatre games that use imagination and self-expression. Children will bring nursery rhymes and fairytales to life as well as create new characters and skits of their own. 45-minute classes. $134/session + $3 registration fee.
A Taste of Musical Theatre (ages 8-10)
Discover the joy of musical theatre! This class will prepare your 8-10 year old for future productions by introducing the basics of singing, moving and acting. The final class will feature a presentation of their classroom experiences. 45-minute classes. Minimum 8 students; maxiumum: 12 students. Taught by Patricia DeCorsey and Julie Martin. Explorations in Music: Melodies! (ages 5-7)
Introduce your child to the fundamentals of music in a fun, hands-on way. Classes are based on principles of the Kodály and Orff methodology. Perfect for kindergaten and early elementary grades. Not offered Winter, 2011.
Explorations in Music: Rhythm, Drums and Fun! (ages 5-7)
Introduce your 5-7 year-old child to the fundamentals of music in a fun, hands-on way. Explore different percussion instruments from around the world in this fun-filled, hands-on drumming and percussion class. Learn basic rhythms and patterns while participating in a community of children drummers. Classes are based on principles of the Kodály and Orff methodology. for Special Needs (ages 1-Teen)
Music enrichment classes for your child with special needs. Children participate in musical activities that focus on interaction and socialization skills, as well as fine and gross motor skills. Finger plays, songs, playing instruments and movement enhance your child’s development with special attention to individual needs. Age-appropriate classes will be taught by Sara Devine, board certified therapist with several years of experience in this field. Open to children ages 1-18. Class size limited to five children. Drumming for Youth with Special Needs (ages 5-12)
Introduce your child to drumming! We will explore different percussion instruments from around the world in theis fun-filled hands-on druming and percussion class. Practice communication, participation and socialization skills through drumming with peers! Class size limited to five children.
