Music Camp Faculty

Paul Feeny, clarinet, graduated from Lawrence University with a Bachelor's of Music Degree in Clarinet Performance. Though originally from Oregon, he has since moved further east and is finishing his Master's of Music Degrees in Clarinet Performance and Chamber Music at the University of Michigan. He will be performing at the International Clarinet Association 'Clarinetfest' in Los Angeles as a Semi-Finalist in the Young Artist Competition and is an Associate Member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra for the 2011 - 2012 season. As a regular member of the University of Michigan Symphony Band, Paul has just finished an extensive three week tour of China with the ensemble.
Katie Krych is a graduate of Lawrence University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. She currently teaches general music and chorus to grades K-8 at Holy Spirit School in Appleton. Katie is also a performance director and teacher with an Irish dance academy in Green Bay. As a former champion Irish dancer, she has worked with groups such as Gaelic Storm, The Chieftains, and Different Drums of Ireland. Katie is skilled in Ballroom and Latin dance, and has experience with East Indian, African, and Japanese dance styles.
David Lehman, camp percusion instructor,
received a B.A. in instrumental music education from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa,
and a Master of Music Education from Northern Illinois University.
A native of Maple Heights, Ohio, he has taught band for more
than thirty-one years in Illinois public schools in Franklin Grove,
Fulton, and, for the last thirty years, in DeKalb.
In 1997 he received the Wirtz Award for Excellence in Education. In addition to his
teaching activities, Dave also maintains a steady performance schedule. He
currently plays principal oboe in the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the
DeKalb Municipal Band, the Kishwaukee Area Community Band, and the Illinois
Valley Community College Wind Ensemble. He also played for many years at
Northern Illinois University, performing in the NIU Philharmonic Orchestra,
the Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, and University Band. In 2000, he performed
with the Still Pointe Ensemble in its tour to Israel and Rome.
Becky Sue Marcus, camp theory instructor, is a middle school band teacher for the Kiel Area School District. She is a graduate of Lakeland College with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and is currently working towards her Master's Degree in Education at Lakeland College. She lives in Kiel with her husband Larry and their three children.
Kimberly Plautz, camp theory instructor, is an elementary and middle school band teacher in the Sheboygan
Area School District. She is a graduate of Lakeland College with a
Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Concordia University with a
Master's Degree in School Counseling. She lives in Manitowoc with her
husband Dan and their four cats.
Sue Toepel, theory, teaches 5th grade band, chorus, and general music for the Kiel Area School District. Though she spends most of her time at the Middle school, she also enjoys teaching two sessions of Kindergarten music at the elementary school. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in instrumental, Kodaly, and vocal music from Silver Lake College, and her Master’s Degree from Cardinal Stritch. Susan lives in Kiel, where she is a member of the Kiel Municipal Band, and performs with the Celebration choir of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Her husband Steve and her also enjoy performing in local theater productions.
Steve Wenzel, camp trumpet instructor, received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire (where his major instrument was trumpet) and his Master of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. He has taught band at the high school level in the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota, and at the junior high school level in Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He is currently in his eighteenth year at Ben Franklin Junior High School in Stevens Point.
