Lawrence Academy of Music is a division of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. Founded in 1874 to provide music instruction to residents of the community, the Preparatory Program became the Arts Academy in 1990. In 2002 the name was changed to Lawrence Academy of Music to better define its role as a music education provider. Students who are studying for personal enrichment or planning potential careers in music can benefit from the knowledge and expertise of faculty who are chosen for their commitment to excellence in music instruction.
In addition to a broad range of individual instrumental and vocal instruction, the Academy houses eight large auditioned ensembles, chamber music ensembles, classes in music theory and musicianship, early childhood music classes, and summer camps. The New Horizons program for adults includes a band and an orchestra. Financial aid awards ensure that Academy programs are accessible to all qualified students.
