Information Technology Services has logged numerous anomalies from your computer over the past 24 hours which make it clear that your computer has been infected with a virus or worm. It is also clear that you do not have current anti-virus software which is required when connected to the Lawrence network. The below information will walk you through removing the virus. If you need assistance, please bring your CPU or laptop to our Helpdesk in Library Room 201, and we will remove the virus or worm and help you protect against further infection. If the virus or worm is not cleaned within a reasonable amount of time, Information Technology Services may choose to disconnect your computer from the Lawrence network depending on the severity of the virus or worm.
Step 1: Verify Your Antivirus Software
Locate and open your anti-virus software such as Sophos, Norton Antivirus or McAfee. Then check the date of your Virus Definitions. This is generally listed on the main window and is called "Virus Definations" file. If out of date, install updates for the software promptly. If your subscription is about to expire, then either resubscribe or download the free campus anti-virus software.
Download the Lawrence-provided antivirus software at http://www.lawrence.edu/dept/its/av/
Step 2: Indentify and Remove the Virus
Step 3: Turn File Sharing Off
To help prevent viruses, Information Technology Services recommends you turn file sharing off.
