FETCH, an application for Macintosh computers, is a method of transferring files between computers over the Internet. The use of Fetch normally requires a special configuration by the system administrator(s) and the installation of VPN Client software. These instructions are provided for those staff members whom have already installed VPN Client on their personal computer. Contact the Technology Services Helpdesk if you require additional information on the use of VPN Client software and Fetch.
Start FETCH
- Double-Click on the Fetch icon or choose FETCH from the Apple Menu
- Select the Transfer site (with ID and Password)
- In the Host field, type:
- www.lawrence.edu to access your web space
- elda.lawrence.edu to access home and department directories
- curtis.lawrence.edu to access the campus or class share
- In the User Id field, type: your LU Network Username
- In the Password field, type: your LU Network Password
- If you are accessing your web space, in the Directory field, type the name of the starting directory:
- dept/your_department_name for departments
- stu/your_username for students
- fast/your_username for faculty or staff
- Click OK
Retrieve a File (Download)
- Make sure the Automatic button is selected
- Double-Click the appropriate folder to find the file you want
- Click on the file you want to retrieve
- Click on Get File... or Indicate the folder on your computer where you want to save the file
- Click on Save... or Click and drag the file you want to retrieve onto the desktop
Send a File (Upload)
- Go to the folder on the remote computer where you will send the file
- Click on Put File...
- In the dialog box, select the file you want to send
- Click on Open
- In the dialog box, verify or change the destination, file name and file format
- Click OK
Stop a Transfer
If you need to stop the transfer (either during uploading or downloading), press the Cancel button

From the Windows menu, choose FETCH Help
Exit FETCH
From the File menu, choose Quit
