The Departmental Retreat to Björklunden     (Version Française)

Every year, the professors and students of the French and Francophone Studies Department go on a weekend retreat to Björklunden.  Björklunden is a Lawrence University facility, located on the shores of Lake Michigan in Door County, about 2 hours from the campus.  The lodge, which sleeps fifty, is in a beautiful, wooded location ideal for winter sports and hiking.  The retreat takes place each February, so we plan a lot of indoor activities!  There are games, films, music, and of course delicious food from France and Francophone regions.  In past years, we sang songs around the fireplace, heard a piano concert given by a Conservatory professor, and had a competitive game or two of Pictionary.  One year, we were joined by the director of the Centre Baobab (which is a part of Lawrence's Senegal term) who came from across the ocean to participate in the weekend.  Among the participants each year are several prospective students.  Everyone had a good time this year, and we are all looking forward to next year!
