3:10-4:20 pm: NEW & INCOMING (freshmen and transfers) STUDENTS.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2008. Room SH 46.
4:30-6:00 pm: RETURNING INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ STUDENTS.
Instrumental Jazz Audition Procedures
All instrumentalists wishing to perform in big bands and/or small groups will audition in 7-10 piece combos comprised of 4-5 horns and full rhythm section for 20-30 minutes. Each member of each group (except drummers) will:
- Perform the 2 prepared heads and improvise multiple choruses on each form (lead sheets in all keys and MP3 play-along recordings downloadable from this web site):
“As You Like It” (blues in Bb by Mark Urness)
“Boppy Head, N.C.” (blues in F by Lee Tomboulian)
- Sight-read 2-3 jazz charts in various styles and tempos

Drumset, bass amp, and guitar amp provided at audition site.
Personnel for all jazz groups will be posted Friday 9/26.
Rehearsals begin Monday, September 29th.
