Jamey Aebersold Play-A-Long Jazz Collection
Thanks to a generous donation of materials from Mr. Jamey Aebersold and Jamey Aebersold Jazz, Inc. (www.jazzbooks.com), the complete collection of 103 jazz Play-A-Long CDs and Books is now stationed in the Lawrence Jazz Audio Room. Students have access to this superb collection and other jazz practice/reference/study materials during Lawrence Conservatory hours 7 days per week.
The Lawrence Jazz and Improvisational Music Department has carefully integrated the jazz performance practice and jazz composition/arranging curricula to incorporate a “Jazz Tune of the Week” program. Students participating in large jazz ensembles, jazz small groups, jazz improvisation classes, and jazz composition/arranging courses study and utilize significant jazz repertoire ranging from standards to free compositions. The 30 compositions listed each year as “Jazz Tune of the Week” are rotated through each 4-year student generation, exposing students to 120 important works during their Lawrence undergraduate experience. Most of these selections are included in the 103 volumes of the Jamey Aebersold Play-A-Long Jazz Collection.
