Sign-up sheets will be posted outside the Conservatory of Music office during New Student Week and on the Jazz Bulletin Board next to Jazz Room 46 in Shattuck Hall.
All students will audition in 6 groups of 10-15 players. Each group will have:
2-3 sax
2 trumpet
2 trombone
1-2 guitar
1-2 piano
1-2 bass
1-2 drums
1 miscellaneous (vibes, violin, etc.)
On Monday, September 10, specific personnel for each auditioning group will be posted on the Jazz Bulletin Board. 35 minutes per group with all Jazz Faculty present in the Jazz Room 46.

3:10-3:45 RETURNING STUDENTS Group 1
3:45-4:20 RETURNING STUDENTS Group 2
WEDNESDAY SEPT. 12:
3:10-3:45 RETURNING STUDENTS Group 3

THURSDAY SEPT. 13:
4:30-5:15 NEW/INCOMING STUDENTS Group 1

Audition Materials

1 minute solo (performed alone – no CD play-along or live accompaniment) of a prepared jazz transcription/etude of student’s choice. Drummers may elect to (1) transcribe a recorded solo, (2) perform a drumset etude/study, or (3) demonstrate a series of different styles in rapid succession. (Like all other instruments, one minute maximum.)

Group sight-reading of 2-3 ensemble charts in mixed styles

Improvisation on Bb blues with all group members contributing 2 solo choruses each
