Ensemble Español

Ensemble Español - Spanish Dance Theatre 

In residence at Northeastern Illinois University of Chicago, Ensemble Español is the premier Spanish dance company in the United States. Ensemble Español's mission is "the presentation, preservation and promotion of the classical, folkloric, flamenco and contemporary dance and music traditions of Spain." The company "celebrates Spain in America by presenting and promoting cultural pluralism at the community, state, national, and international levels". 

Ensemble Español is built of forty dancers, singers, musicians and guest artists from Spain and the United States. Their dance company performs regularly, hosts an American Spanish dance festival, offers hundreds of dance classes in the Chicago area, and runs a youth training company - The Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Youth Company. The EESDYC has members from 5th grade through college, selected through annual auditions. The selected youth span nine Chicago communities and become role models in these communities and their schools, working towards professional dance careers in the adult company. Ensemble Español also serves over 20,000 students and Chicago residents annually through their educational presentations and residencies in Chicago and across the US.

Ensemble Español has several regular internships they offer, the focuses of which are detailed below however the exact focus of this internship is to be determined.

Wardrobe Assistant - Assist company artistic staff with maintenance and repair existing costumes. Develop and maintain an inventory system for company costumes and facilitate laundering after performances.

Photography/Video Production - Photograph and video record company performances and rehearsals. Opportunities also include producing videos for our Educational and Community Outreach Programs, as well as videos to enhance our internet presence.

Graphic Design - Design postcards, brochures, flyers, and ads for upcoming company performances and programs. Strong knowledge of Adobe Indesign and Photoshop preferred.

Arts/Nonprofit Management - Work closely with administrative staff to create/redevelop marketing, development and social media plan and assist in strategic planning processes with the Board of Directors. Help in facilitating professional concerts and outreach programming.
