Nicholas Keelan

Associate Professor of Music

Nick Keelan is Associate Professor of Trombone and also teaches in the jazz studies department at Lawrence University. Currently he is the director of the Lawrence Trombone Ensemble and the Lawrence Jazz Workshop. He performs with the Lawrence Faculty Jazz Group and the Lawrence Brass. Since he joined the Lawrence faculty in 1985, Keelan has taught euphonium, tuba, chaired instrumental music education, and served as conductor of the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Prior to coming to Lawrence he taught for ten years in the schools of Colorado and Texas. His degrees are from the University of Northern Colorado and Henderson State University in Arkansas. He performs on and is a clinician for Conn trombones. His current areas of research are in trombone pedagogy and master trombone pedagogues.
