Opera Production with Full Orchestra

Annually, Lawrence performs a full opera production with orchestra (double cast).  Recent productions include:

Opera Scenes

Two opera scenes programs are performed each year in their original languages, fall and spring terms.

Micro-Operas

Improvisational performances during fall term, in conjunction with other improvisation students and groups at Lawrence.  Click HERE to see more on the inaugural micro-opera performances, called "Expressions of Acceptance".

Musical Theater Productions

Every other year there is a main stage curricular production of a "singer heavy" show with orchestra.  Additionally, there is at least one student-led production every year.

Choral Ensembles

There are multiple choral ensembles and performances at Lawrence.

  • Concert Choir (mixed voices), Cantala (women), and Viking Choral (mixed voices) perform in five concerts per year, including a major choral work with the Symphony Orchestra.  Past works have been:
    • The Creation, by Haydn
    • St. John's Passion, by Bach
    • Ein Deutsches Requiem, by Brahms
    • Messiah, by Handel
    • War Requiem, by Britten
    • Carmina Burana, by Orff

Studio and Department Performances

All voice studios are represented in public performance, two to three times per term.  In addition, each studio holds its own performance “lab” to help singers learn to present literature to their studio colleagues.
