Shawn Seguin

On March 2, 2013, Shawn Seguin performed a recital on bassoon and gave a contrabassoon masterclass, shown here with Ryan Kessler. Shawn was a student of Professor Rath's at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned the B.M. in Bassoon Performance, and at the time of this recital and masterclass, was completing the M.M. in Bassoon Performance at the University of Michigan.

In Fall 2016, Shawn returned as guest artist with the ViBE and to present a short recital on amplified bassoon. He will be a featured artist at the IDRS annual conference at Lawrence University, June 20-24, 2017.

Dr. Susan Nelson

On March 2, 2013, Dr. Susan Nelson, bassoon professor at Bowling Green State University, presented a recital and masterclass. Susan earned the M.M. in Bassoon Performance at the University of Oklahoma as a student of Professor Rath.

Dr. Theresa Koenig

Early instrument specialist and bassoonist, Dr. Theresa Koenig, shown here with Ryan Kessler, presented a wonderful presentation on March 7, 2014. The topic of her lecture was titled "Forerunners of the Bassoon".

Ted Soluri

Marion Reinhard (Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet)

Brad Balliett (DECODA)

On January 7, 2016, members of the DECODA, a New York City-based chamber ensemble comprised of virtuoso musicians, a 4-day residency at Lawrence and at Lawrence's north campus, Bjorklunden, in beautiful Door County. Bassoonist Brad Balliett worked with several students during his visit. Students: Jacob Fernandez and Stuart Young.

Lawrence Academy of Music

Each year, members of the Lawrence University Academy of Music bassoon studio--Susan McCardell, instructor--are chosen to perform in concert with ViBE. This picture is from the first concert, spring of 2013, where the Academy Bassoonists provided the antiphonal bassoons for Rath's arrangement of 1812 Overture. In the winter of 2014, the Academy bassoon invitees performed the Sound of Music children's parts in "Do-Re-Mi". Spring of 2015 featured them in a Rath arrangement of "[Somewhere] Over the Rainbow," conducted by Jacob Fernandez. In the spring of 2016, they will perform an arrangement of Verdi's Prelude to Act III of La Traviata.

Scott Pool

Scott Pool, former student of Professor Rath at the University of Oklahoma, performed a recital, presented a masterclass, and conducted the ViBE in his arrangement for bassoon ensemble of Creep by Radiohead. Dates: November 16-18, 2013.
