The program at Lawrence for string bass is designed to give a comprehensive education in performance and pedagogy. Students pursuing a degree in string bass may select from majors in music performance, music education, theory/composition, or jazz studies. Many students choose to pursue a double degree program, combining a music degree with a degree from another area of interest. Non- majors and minors are welcome to study string bass. All instruction is provided by members of the faculty. The study of the bass focuses on the achievement of technical mastery of the instrument in order to enable the student to pursue their musical goals. All students study solo repertoire, a comprehensive program of scales and arpeggios, etudes, and orchestral excerpts.
