Mathematics: AP Calculus

We will tour the syllabus of advanced placement calculus, both AB and BC, discussing algebraic foundations, limits, differentiation, Riemann sums and integration, infinite series, and power series. At each stage, we will emphasize:

1. interesting problems and problem-types
2. use of graphing calculators
3. the many possible application problems
4. how to build intuition
5. how much theory should be taught and how
6. the actual mechanics of teaching the AP course — homework, quizzes, exams, and preparing students for the AP exams

Instructor: Alan Parks, professor of mathematics and Pieper Family Professor of Servant-Leadership, Lawrence University
