Extensive athletic facilities are available at Lawrence. In addition to the Banta Bowl, a 5,255-seat football stadium built into a natural ravine, and Whiting Field, with its eight-lane perma-track and baseball, softball, and soccer fields, Lawrence has two gymnasiums. Built in 1929 and fully renovated in 1986, Alexander Gym features two regulation-size basketball courts with hardwood floors, three volleyball courts, baseball/softball batting cages, a wrestling room, three racquetball courts, two squash courts, a weight room, and four locker rooms.

Located in the heart of campus and built into a hillside overlooking the Fox River, the Buchanan Kiewit Center contains an Olympic-size swimming pool with separate diving well, moveable bulkhead, electronic timing, and underwater viewing area. A 12,000-square-foot gymnasium with a hardwood floor is used for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and fencing. The building also has an elevated four-lane jogging track, 2,500-square-foot exercise room, and four racquetball courts.

On the riverfront at the bottom of South Drew Street, a nine-court tennis complex serves the varsity tennis teams and is also available for recreational use.
