1. Update/next steps on Lawrentian's Web edition
   We agreed (more or less) that:
   • The Lawrentian can sell print advertising online, but they can't sell web advertising.
   • It would be a good thing if The Lawrentian were on a Lawrence server.
   • The quality of the Lawrentian web site is not our business.
   • Pete would call the editor of The Lawrentian and clarify our positions: we are willing to reinstate a redirect from http://www.lawrence.edu/sorg/LAWRENTIAN/ to http://kramlicc.student.lawrence.edu/ for the remainder of the school year, assuming that:
     1. They take the advertising pitch off the site
     2. They sign the form

2. Update on firewall discussion. Does the Web steering committee have a view on whether students and faculty should be able to operate personal Web servers that are accessible from the Internet?

Hirby reported on the firewall meeting of 26 April. A committee, consisting of the usual suspects (Hirby, Lowe, Isaacson, Gilbert), was formed at that meeting to draft a security policy. Issues/questions that were raised in the ensuing, spirited, discussion include:
• do we need multiple flavors of web server (Mac, UNIX, Linux) outside the firewall in order to accomodate various educational purposes?
• faculty should not spend their time administering servers, but should be using the tools to do cool stuff
• can Computer Services support the server activities that are currently going on (or might in the future go on) on faculty personal servers?
• access from home is another issue altogether
3. Proposed mirroring solution (post-firewall) for www.lawrence.edu

Robert will write up and email an description of the "mirroring solution."

   These reports were postponed until our next meeting.
