World-Wide Web Steering Committee
November 7, 2002
Minutes

Attending: Steve Butts, Steve Blodgett, Steve Hirby, Robert Lowe, Michael Thorp, Peter Gilbert

The agenda of the meeting consisted essentially of identifying the remaining issues in the site design and resolving them. They were:

  1. Achieving concurrence from Admission on the template for their main page. Comments from Mr. Thorp included "great," "lovely," "fabulous," and the ever-popular "doesn't suck." Members present took these to indicate agreement on the Audience View template by Admission. Mr. Butts will seek a similar response from Ms. Truesdell.
  2. We agreed NOT to alter the home page to indicate that the "Faculty and Staff" link was for faculty and staff and not about them.
  3. The pull-down bar on lower pages will NOT appear on the Level I page because it is largely redundant so close to the home page.
  4. The "Contact" link will appear at the bottom of pages, wherever that may occur. It will be included in a line that has the LU address and telephone number. Click-ing the link will bring up an email form for the 10 or so most popular contact points plus a link to the Directory page.

Messrs. Blodgett and Gilbert are working on a finicky list of technical details such as which font has what colors. Next week this list, together with PDF files of Blodgett's full color screen representations and other instructions, will be sent to Netcasters for their final work creating the coded templates that they will provide. Mr. Butts will seek a con-currence from AdStaff at its meeting tomorrow, including their approval of the stipulation that all departments, academic and administrative shall use the standard departmental template. Butts will check with the Dean on this before broaching it with the full group.

On a completely different topic, the Committee noted problems with the external server not being updated in a timely way and resolved to have further discussions about this in the future.

There will be NO meeting next week.
