MATCH RESULTS

NCAA Division III Championships at Ohio Northern University (March 3-4, 2000)
Lawrence's Ross Mueller posted the best finish in school history when he took third at 174 pounds. Mueller pinned Brendan Harris of the United States Coast Guard Academy in 4:11 in a second-round match. Mueller then beat Josh DeMarco of Ohio Northern 12-3 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, John Roden of Springfield College beat Mueller 3-2, dropping the Lawrence wrestler into the consolation bracket. Mueller went on to defeat Brad Christie of Montclair State 5-2, and then beat Rob Murray of Loras College 9-1 in the third-place match.

At 184 pounds, Lawrence's Andy Kazik was pinned by Western Maryland's Charlie Conaway in the first round. Kazik dropped into the consolation bracket and was then eliminated after a 3-2 loss to Gene Adams of Luther.

At heavyweight, Lawrence's Scott Fischer beat Jason Ott of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 7-6 in a second-round match. Jason Turner of the State University of New York-Oswego then defeated Fischer 7-2 in the quarterfinals. Fischer fell into the consolation bracket and was eliminated after a 6-0 loss to Ryan Mills of Wabash College.

Lawrence finished 18th in the team standings with 17.5 points.

NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional at Elmhurst College (February 26, 2000)
Lawrence had three wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. Ross Mueller (174 pounds), Andy Kazik (184) and Scott Fischer (285) qualified for the Vikings. Mueller and Fischer won their respective weight classes, and Kazik received the lone at-large berth in a vote by coaches.

Marquette 36, Lawrence 6 (February 10, 2000)
Lawrence won two matches against the Division I Golden Eagles at Marquette. At 174 pounds, Lawrence's Ross Mueller beat Mark Corsentino 3-1. Lawrence's Andy Kazik then beat Brock Warder 6-4 at 184 pounds.

Wheaton College Invitational (February 4, 2000)
Andy Kazik captured an individual title for Lawrence, and the Vikings finished seventh in the team standings at the 29-team event. Kazik won the championship at 184 pounds by defeating Jeremy Miller of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 2-1 in the title match. Lawrence's Ross Mueller took second at 174 pounds, Scott Fischer was sixth at heavyweight, and Josh Lavik took eighth at 125.

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 41, Lawrence 3 (January 28, 2000)
The Vikings, ranked 21st in the country, won just one match against the Eagles, ranked fourth in the country. Lawrence's Ross Mueller beat Andy Melton 6-4 at 174 pounds for the Vikings' lone victory. Lawrence is now 8-9 in dual matches.

Milwaukee School of Engineering 17, Lawrence 16 (January 21, 2000)
Lawrence 36, Knox 9

Lawrence split a pair of matches, picking up a win over conference rival Knox.

Andy Peterson and Peter Stevens both posted wins over MSOE and Knox. Also getting a victory for the Vikings were Brian Branchford, Darrin Lichterman, Adam Nickel and Mike Mitty.

Lawrence is now 8-8 in dual matches.

Lawrence 24, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 15 (January 21, 2000)
Lawrence picked up a pair of pins and won four consecutive matches as the Vikings beat the Pointers at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Lawrence's Drew Carmen pinned Jason Kleinschmidt in 2 minutes, 31 seconds at 141 pounds, and Sam Buckett pinned Stevens Point's Mike Nechuta in 2:52 at 149. Lawrence's Ross Mueller started a string of four straight Lawrence wins by beating Wes Kapping 6-2 at 174. Andy Kazik (184) followed that with a 9-3 win over Joe Bavlnka. Lawrence's Justin Seaman (197) then beat Eric Schadrie 5-3, and Scott Fischer capped the scoring for Lawrence with a 9-3 win over Mitch Gehring.

Lawrence is now 7-7 in dual matches.

Wisconsin Private College Championships (January 15, 2000)
Lawrence had one individual champion and placed fourth as a team.

Mark Schmoll had a 3-0 record with one pin on his way to a title. Peter Stevens (2-1), Adam Nickel (1-1), and Andy Peterson (2-1) all placed second. Darrin Lichterman (1-2) took fourth.

Budd Whitehill Division III National Dual Championships (January 14-15, 2000)
Lawrence posted a 2-2 dual match record in the tournament at Lycoming (Pa.) College and improved to 6-7 overall in dual matches. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the championship by beating Delaware Valley College 23-16 in the title match.

Lawrence, the 11th seed in the 19-team tournament, lost to Delaware Valley 27-15 in an opening-round match. The Aggies won six match, one by forfeit, to claim the victory. Ross Hubbard (157 pounds), Ross Mueller (174), Justin Seaman (197), and Scott Fischer (heavyweight) picked up wins for Lawrence.
The Vikings were knocked into the consolation bracket and then beat the State College of New York-Oswego 26-15. Sam Buckett (149), Hubbard (157), Mike Nickel (165), Mueller (174), Andy Kazik (184), and Seaman (197) earned victories for the Vikings.

Lawrence went on to beat Johnson & Wales College 25-15. Erik Zimmerman (141), Buckett (149), Hubbard (157), Mueller (174), Kazik (184), and Fischer (heavyweight) all picked up wins for the Vikings.

In a match that would have given Lawrence the right to wrestle for fifth or seventh place, the Vikings lost to Springfield (Mass.) College 25-16. The Pride won the first three matches before Buckett won by decision at 149, and Hubbard followed that with a win at 157. After a Springfield win at 165, Mueller (174), Kazik (184), and Seaman (197) won the next three matches but it was not enough to overcome the Pride's lead.

Simpson Tournament (January 8, 2000)
Lawrence won the title at the eight-team event with 135 points. Wartburg was second with 134.5 and Simpson (Gold) was third with 116.5.

The Vikings captured five individual titles. Winning championships for Lawrence were Ross Hubbard at 157 pounds, Andy Kazik at 184, Justin Seaman at 197 and Scott Fischer at heavyweight.

Hubbard beat Jason Wegner of Simpson (Gold) 7-2 in the title match. Kazik pinned Austin Sorganfrey of Wartbury in 2:53 to earn his title. Seaman defeated Wartburg's Andy Fecht 8-4 to win his crown. Fischer pinned Wartburg's LeRoy Gardner in 3:45 to win the title. That pin in the final match of the day also secured the championship for Lawrence.

Also posting records of .500 or better during the two-day event were Peter Stevens (2-0, 174), Scott Fisher (4-1, heavyweight), Ross Mueller (4-1, 174), Josh Lavick (3-1, 125), Adam Nickel (2-1, 165), and Justin Seaman (3-2, 197).

The Vikings improved their record in dual matches to 4-5.
