SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Superior women's basketball team held off a determined effort by Lawrence University on Saturday for a 66-58 win in the consolation game at the Lakeland College Tip-Off Tournament.
Katie Zavodny scored 15 points to pace Superior (2-1), and Bri Davis added 14 points. Laura Aerts scored 21 points to pace the Vikings (0-3). America McClure, who was named to the all-tournament team for Lawrence, pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points.
The Vikings had a frigid first half and hit on only 6 of 31 (19.4 percent) from the floor before the break. The Yellowjackets led 31-22 at the half, and Superior went on an 11-0 run early in the second half to take its biggest lead of the game at 43-24 with 15:51 remaining.
The Vikings' shooting heated up in the second half, and Lawrence trimmed the lead to 55-46 with 4:50 left on McClure's layup. Lawrence was 15-for-25 (60 percent) from the floor in the second half.
Superior pumped the lead back to 15 at 61-46, and Lawrence was able to get no closer than seven points at 63-56 with less than a minute left.
The Vikings don't return to action until Dec. 4 when they travel to Knox College to open Midwest Conference play.
