MANITOWOC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team jumped out to a big early lead and cruised to an 88-68 nonconference victory over Silver Lake College on Monday.
Laura Aerts scored 22 points to lead five Lawrence players in double figures. Aerts also picked up seven steals, five rebounds and three assists.
Cathy Kaye added 17 points and tied for high game honors with eight rebounds for the Vikings (3-18). Nakita Chadwick added 13 points, Katie Condon had 11 and Kanesha Walker added 10.
McKayla Nelson scored 22 points to pace Silver Lake (3-16), and Brittany Lemke added 20.
Lawrence jumped out to a big early lead before the Lakers made a run. The Vikings scored the game's first 19 points, including six by Aerts and five by Kaye.
The Lakers got on the board with 13:45 left in the first half on Kortney Mansker's layup. Silver Lake battled back to cut the Lawrence lead to 26-18 on Nelson's 3-pointer with 8:24 left.
Lawrence then finished the first half on a 22-6 run to grab a 48-24 lead at the break. Aerts scored six points during that outburst and Condon added five.
The Vikings shot 62.1 percent (18-29) from the floor in the opening half and finished at 48.4 percent (31-64) for the game. The Vikings also forced 33 Silver Lake turnovers.
The Vikings kept up the pressure early in the second half and pushed the lead to 56-26 on Kaye's jumper with 17:46 left. The 30-point margin was Lawrence's biggest lead of the game.
The Lakers battled back but got no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
Lawrence, which snapped a 12-game losing streak, returns to Midwest Conference action on Wednesday when it travels to Beloit College.
