Rhodes pulls away early from Lawrence

IRVING, Texas -- The Rhodes College women's basketball team pulled away late in the first half and never looked back in a 77-63 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Friday.

Rhodes (5-4) had all five starters score in double figures in the game played at the University of Dallas. Jenilee Pate scored 13 points to pace the Lynx. Sharwil Bell added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Laura Aerts poured in a game-high 19 points to lead Lawrence (0-6). Aerts hit 6 of 7 shots from the floor and was 7 of 9 from the foul line.

Cathy Kaye and Katie Condon added 10 points apiece for the Vikings.

Lawrence shot its highest percentage from the floor in a game this season by connecting on 43.6 percent (24-55) of its shots. The Vikings outrebounded Rhodes 39-38 but couldn't overcome the opposition's hot shooting from the perimeter. Rhodes hit on 10 of 20 shots from 3-point range.

Rhodes led 29-19 with 4:29 left in the first half, but the Lynx finished the half on a 10-2 run to take a 39-21 lead at the break. Rhodes scored the final seven points of the opening half.

Rhodes then opened the second half on a 12-4 run to take a 50-25 lead with 17:04 left in the game. Rhodes led by as many as 28 but Lawrence did manage to cut that lead in half for the final margin.

The Vikings play the University of Dallas on Sunday.
